Trisha Yearwood paid tribute to late former President Jimmy Carter, who died at his Georgia home on Sunday (December 29). He was 100.
Yearwood shared a photo with Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died in 2023. She was 96. In the photo, Yearwood and the Carters were working with one another on a Habitat for Humanity home. Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project launched in the mid-1980s with the Carters frequently volunteering over the years, per the nonprofit organization.
“Rest easy, Mr. President. I’m sad for us, and happy for you. Your and Mrs. Rosalynn’s legacy of love will live forever. ♥️,” Yearwood wrote in her caption when she shared a photo on Instagram on Sunday. She and her husband, fellow country star Garth Brooks, previously shared photos with the Carters working on Habitat for Humanity projects to celebrate Carter’s 100th birthday earlier this year. Brooks said at the time, “(Carter’s) work has impacted the world and your heart continues to change lives, ours included. …Thank you for inspiring all of us to give more and love more! It’s an honor to be your friend.”
Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, said in a statement that “we are deeply saddened by President Carter’s passing, and our prayers are with the Carter family. President and Mrs. Carter began volunteering with Habitat for Humanity near their home in southwest Georgia more than 40 years ago, and soon brought worldwide attention to the need for decent and affordable housing. We are grateful for the incredible impact the Carters have had on Habitat and on the families who have benefited from their shining example. The Carters put Habitat for Humanity on the map, and their legacy lives on in every family we serve around the world.”
Carter’s funeral will be held at Washington National Cathedral on Thursday, January 9.
