Is 3 Grand on an Engagement Ring too Cheap??

Engagement Ring

I'm floored at what this woman did to her partner and to be honest, I would be ecstatic to receive an engagement ring after a year like we've had in 2020, no matter what the ring costs. But, apparently one woman thought her ring was too cheap according to Fox 5 Atlanta and she returned her $3,000 engagement ring to her partner... I guess it doesn't matter that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her in that moment? Til' this day, I don't think I even remember what my husband spent on my engagement ring but I do know it could not have been $3,000. It's not that he didn't want to spend that much on me, but I told him that I didn't want a crazy expensive ring like that. Materialistic things honestly, don't mean that much to me. It should be about the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with and your future, right?!

From Fox 5 Atlanta:

The ring, which is made of white gold with diamonds and sapphire, cost the man about $3,000. However, he allegedly makes enough that if he followed the 10% rule, which says he should spend one-tenth of his salary on an engagement ring, he should have spent between $10,000 and $15,000.
The man posted about his dilemma on Reddit’s “Am I the A--h---” forum, asking if he had done the wrong thing by spending only $3,000 on the engagement ring for his fiancee.
In the post, he explained that while he does make a sizable salary, this year has been somewhat challenging because he’s been financially supporting his parents, sister and nephew who all had COVID-19. He is also still supporting his sister, who lost her job.
To make matters worse, he said his job announced that 150 people will be laid off next year, so he wanted to be smart about his spending, though he doesn’t think he’ll be laid off.

Yeah... In 2020, I think I would be happy to get a ring at all but that's just my opinion... What do you think? Is the ring too cheap? Too expensive? Or just right?
