Woman Attacked At The Augusta Canal Trail

It's frightening to think that I've been out running alone before, and this could've happened to me.

A woman was jogging at the Augusta Canal Trail, Wednesday afternoon (5pm) when she was attacked. The authorities believe it to be an attempted rape, and the suspect is still on the loose.

Richmond County Sheriff's Department describes the suspect as "black male, 5’09” to 5’10” in height, 180 to 200 pounds, 40 to 50 years of age, short curly black beard, and short black hair. The subject was wearing a red shirt, blue jeans, and a blue hat riding a dark in color mountain bicycle."

Ben Taylor was out on the trail and saw the woman upset along with a large police presence. He says crime happens too often out there-- having had 2 bikes and a backpack stolen previously.

If you have ANY information, please contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Department. Call 706-821-1080

This is an eye-opening event. Please avoid running/walking alone, and if you do, be aware of your surroundings.
