Dogs Abandoned At Augusta Animal Services

There is a sign posted outside of Augusta Animal Services prohibiting people from abandoning animals... but that didn't stop someone from dumping 11 dogs inside crates overnight Monday.

Eleven mixed breed dogs, crammed into crates, covered in fleas with very little food.

The shelter is working to get them vetted to make sure there are no major issues, and they are working with local rescue organizations to find homes for the dogs.

Augusta Animal Services does have surveillance cameras, but they are just live feed, no recording.

Animal abandonment carries a $1,000 fine. Augusta Animal Services is working with the Sheriff's Office and asks if anyone has any information to please contact them. If you are unable to care for a pet, there is a RIGHT way to surrender them- the shelter is opening during the week for that!

I know our friends at Dog Networking Agents are one of the rescues trying to help with this situation. If you are interested in fostering or adopting a dog, please reach out to DNA!
