A South Carolina Mental Hospital patient is dead after being at the bottom of a dogpile of several employees. Dogpiling is something that is specifically prohibited in their training. Reports show 3 of the 13 employees involved in the 35-year-old's death in January hadn't been through the training on restraining patients.
Video of the incident shows employees on top of William Avant at the Columbia facility. They were there for 4 minutes, and his face turned blue and be became unresponsive. State law enforcement investigated but did not press charges.
A release of records was refused due to patient privacy laws, even though he died while under government care.
