Dog dumping has become a huge issue in areas across Georgia, and counties like Burke County, don't have an animal shelter to help with the issue.
Girard Lifesaver Rescue, located in Burke County, has around 80 animals in their care right now. The Animal Services Department in Burke County formed just 2 years ago, and there's been talk of a shelter, but no plans have actually come together.
Girard is one of two rescues in Burke County... and for a county that size, it's hard for them to keep up.
We appreciate rescues like Girard that are helping and bringing more awareness to the issues. They often have to rely on donations, or spend money out of their own pockets to help these animals. It's heartbreaking the number of abandoned animals around this area.
