Sam Hunt Sings Reba McEntire's 'Fancy' At CMT Artists Of The Year Awards

Sam Hunt nailed his performance of Reba McEntire's hit song, "Fancy" at the 2019 CMT Artists of the Year event on Wednesday night (October 16). Hunt, with his acoustic guitar in hand, added his own style to the classic without straying away from the power of the original.

"Fancy" was initially a 1969 Bobbie Gentry hit that McEntire later decided to record as a part of her 1991 album, Rumor Has It. The song was her third single released off the album and since then has become one of her most well known songs.

Hunt's performance of "Fancy" was to pay tribute to McEntire who was being honored with the 2019 Artist of a Lifetime award. The segment also included a video featuring Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay and more sharing their love for McEntire. Vince Gill, a longtime friend and fellow country star, also took the stage delivering a heartfelt speech honoring McEntire. Additionally, country music group, Lady Antebellum also performed another one of her hit songs, "Is There Life Out There?"

The 2019 CMT Artists of the Year event honored Underwood, Dan + Shay, Luke Combs, Kane Brown and Thomas Rhett as the 10th group of CMT Artists of the Year. Additionally, Ashley McBryde was named Breakout Artist of the Year.

The night was full of many emotions, especially from Brown who couldn't hold back tears while accepting his CMT Artists of the Year honor. During his acceptance speech, Brown broke down in tears as he dedicated his award to his longtime drummer, Kenny Dixon who just passed away in a car accident on Saturday (October 12).

Following Brown's heartbreaking speech, it was Rhett's turn to accept his award. The "Remember You Young" singer took a leap of faith as he publicly lead the audience in a prayer for Brown during his acceptance speech. It was a truly moving night for the country music community.
