Here Are All The 'Game Of Thrones' Celebrity Cameos You May Have Missed

As we gear up to say our goodbyes (some more fondly than others) to Game of Thrones, there's a lot to look back on. The beloved show has been a part of our lives for the past decade, and it garnered some pretty big celebrity fans along the way. Throughout its 8-season run, creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have added some easter eggs to the world of Westeros by letting the likes of Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton, Rob McElhenney, Aaron Rodgers and more diehard GoT-ers have cameos in the hit series. Here are all the celebrity cameos you may have missed in Game of Thrones.

Ed Sheeran (Season 7, Episode 1)

Okay, so this one isn't too "surprising" — Ed Sheeran's cameo as a Lannister soldier (a gift to Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), who's a huge fan) in the Season 7 premiere was easy to spot and sparked a polarizing response across the internet — but did you catch the reference to his character in Season 8, Episode 1? It happened when Bronn (Jerome Flynn) was having some, ahem, fun with three women. Before getting down to business, they discussed the fate laid upon various men who crossed Daenerys and Drogon's path, and apparently Sheeran's Eddie did not have a good encounter with the dragon.

“That boy Eddie,” one of the women says, “came back with his face burned right off. He’s got no eyelids now.”

Ouch.

Chris Stapleton (Season 8, Episode 3)

Chris Stapleton is a self-proclaimed Game of Thrones nerd, so much so that he had his management team reach out to HBO about getting him an appearance on the show. His wish was granted on Season 8's controversial third episode, "The Long Night," where he had a short (and dark) part as a wildling-turned-wight.

"They knew we weren't actors," the country star explained of his experience on set. "So the direction was basically, we're going to place you, and when we tell you to, open your eyes. And they trained us on how White Walkers are supposed to stand up and move when they're first waking up. We had a crash course in that."

Rob McElhenney and Martin Starr (Season 8, Episode 1)

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Rob McElhenney has been friends with David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for quite some time (the GoT showrunners made a cameo on Sunny as lifeguards and penned a script in 2013), so it was their turn to return the favor. In the Season 8 premiere, McElhenney plays an Ironborn guard on Euron Greyjoy's ship who gets an arrow through the eye as Theon goes to rescue his sister, Yara. Silicon Valley's Martin Starr made an appearance in the same scene, and gets an arrow through the forehead.

Aaron Rodgers (Season 8, Episode 5)

Aaron Rodgers should probably stick to football. The Green Bay Packers quarterback appeared in the show's penultimate episode as a Golden Company soldier during Daenerys' attack on King's Landing. And no one on the Lannister side of that battle received a merciful fate.

Mastodon (Season 5, Episode 8 and Season 7, Episode 7)

Mastodon is one of the few who can say they're in the two-timers club when it comes to Game of Thrones cameos. Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor of the heavy metal group played wildling's in Season 5's excellent "Hardhome" episode; however, their characters must have seen grisly ends, because their second appearance was in the Season 7 finale, where they played wights in the Night King's army.

Of Monsters And Men (Season 4, Episode 2 and Season 6, Episode 6)

Like Mastodon, Of Monsters and Men were also lucky enough to snag two cameos on Game of Thrones. Their first appearance was in Season 4, Episode 2 during the infamous Purple Wedding reception. They also play a part in the Braavosi production of The Bloody Hand in Season 6, Episode 6.

“We’d asked our manager a long time ago to ask them if we could be extras in it while they were shooting in Iceland, but nothing really happened, and our touring schedule was pretty crazy at that time anyways so we sort of just disappeared,” the band told WSJ about wanting to get cast in the series. “But apparently they noticed our interest and the ball started rolling. I’m pretty sure our manager just kept asking and asking and finally they must have given in.”

Persistence pays off!

Noah Syndergaard (Season 7, Episode 4)

Noah Syndergaard put his pitching skills to the test in Season 7, Episode 4. The Mets ace made a cameo as a Lannister soldier, who's unfortunately up against Daenerys and Drogon. But before getting roasted, he was able to chuck a spear and nail a Dorthraki horse.

Sigur Rós (Season 4, Episode 2)

Like Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Rós also appeared in the infamous Purple Wedding episode; however, before the gruesome reception. The Icelandic band performs its rendition of "The Rains of Castamere" — the song that played during the horrific Red Wedding — in front of Joffrey, foreshadowing his fate

Coldplay Drummer Will Champion (Season 3, Episode 9)

Speaking of the Red Wedding, Coldplay drummer Will Champion played a role in the slaughter of Robb Catelyn, and Talisa Stark. During the tragic episode, Champion fittingly plays a drummer, who pounds the beat of the show's title track. It is also the cue that will set into motion the most gruesome event to happen in the series.

Snow Patrol Singer Gary Lightbody (Season 3, Episode 3)

Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody had an appropriate cameo in Season 3, Episode 3. He was cast as a Bolton soldier who is in the group that sings "Bear and the Maiden Fair" as they travel the road.
