Thief Gives Infant Left In Stolen Car To Gas Station Clerk

A suspected car thief in Florida had to make a quick stop after stealing a running car from Royal Palm Beach early Tuesday morning. According to the Palm Beach Post, the man pulled up to a Sunoco gas station, grabbed a sleeping infant from the car and left it with a clerk at the station. The man then got back in the car and fled the station.

Michelle Ashby, who was preparing for the breakfast rush at the restaurant inside the gas station said the man seemed like he "appeared to be scared" when knocked on the door with the baby in hand.

“(The clerk) said the suspect appeared to be scared and in a hurry when he knocked on the door,” Ashby said.

The clerk called 911 and police were able to contact the mother and reunite her with her baby. Police said the baby was sound asleep and unharmed

“It hurt my heart because being a mom of four, I knew he was hungry,” she said. When the mother arrived, “she was just happy and relieved” to have her baby,” Ashby added.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect but did find the car about three miles away.
